How to dress for a pole dancing party

Few things produce more anxiety than not knowing what to wear. And if you’ve never been to a pole dancing party, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed. But don’t worry!

At Spice Pole Parties in Atlanta, we’re committed to helping you look and feel your best while having an absolute blast at your next pole dancing party. Here are some tips to help you dress for success.

Get comfy!

The most important thing is to feel comfortable, whatever that means to you. Comfort is the way to go, but nothing too baggy. You want to be able to move freely with a full range of motion, without your clothes getting in the way as you swing around the pole. Remember to remove any jewelry such as rings, bracelets, and necklaces before the party.

Tops

You’ll want to wear a sports bra, for support, and many women rock the sports bra alone. If you’re not comfortable, however, add a tank or crop top over it. Just make sure they’re not too baggy. Athletic clothes that are moisture-wicking are a bonus, as they absorb sweat and help you keep your grip. And don’t worry about getting cold, things heat up once the party gets going!

Bottoms

For bottoms, athletic shorts are best. You want to have as much grip as possible when performing on the pole. Therefore, the shorter the shorts, the better. Running shorts and cycling shorts are great. Booty shorts are always welcome and encouraged, especially with our twerking packages! Leggings are not ideal but can be worn if that’s what you feel most comfortable in. Leggings will, however, reduce your grip on the pole and require a firmer grip and more overall body strength.

Shoes

Your bare feet are best and provide the best grip. If you prefer shoes, rubber-soled athletic shoes are great.

If you’re doing heels choreography, make sure to bring a comfortable pair of heels. If you plan on taking your skills from the studio to the club or just want to be prepared to dance in any outfit for any occasion, learning to dance in heels is a great skill.

Don’t wear lotion

To ensure you get a good grip on the pole, avoid applying any hand or body lotion before your pole dancing party. The same goes for self-tanner or a recent spray tan. Skin with lotion on it can be slippery, especially when things heat up. At the very least, it will make performing the moves much more difficult. At worst, you could slip off the pole and cause serious injury. Safety is a key component to having a good time.

Coordinate

Coordinating outfits with your group is a great way to add a little more fun. Plus, it makes for great pictures! Or, take it a step further and choose a theme for your party. Feather boas, fun hats, funky glasses, or other creative outfits are welcome if you can safely dance in them.

Most importantly…

Have fun and be free with yourself! It’s okay to let loose, it’s okay to be sexy, it’s okay to have a good time. Pole dancing is fun, rejuvenating, and builds self-confidence. And bonus: it’s a great full-body workout.
